This week we talked about the shift in content focus and about how students were once tasked with rote memorization instead of actually learning the material and being able to later explain the information in a meaningful way. We examined Bloom’s taxonomy and how students are often tasked with working with the lower levels of the model, while employers due require that workers be able to perform at the top levels. I do think that the shift is movement in the right direction to create independent critical thinkers.
This week I learned from my peers:
- Tristan talked about how teaching can be a challenge and how much students love to play games.
- Natalie talked about standardized learning and Bloom’s Taxonomy.
- Larrisa talked about the shift with teachers being the “all knowing source of information”
